About
Hello, I’m James.
I help small businesses take their first confident step into AI. Not with strategy decks or buzzwords, with plain English, practical setups and honest advice about what’s worth doing.
Why AIisCurious exists
A couple of years ago I started noticing the same conversation happening everywhere, at family gatherings, in pubs, with friends who run trades businesses and shops and small practices. It went like this: “I know we should be doing something with this AI stuff. I just don’t know what, and I don’t know who to ask.”
The people asking weren’t behind. They were busy, running real businesses, looking after customers and staff, without a spare afternoon to test tools or decode breathless AI headlines. And the help on offer was all wrong for them: expensive consultancies built for corporates, agencies selling whatever earns commission, and an internet full of hype written for Silicon Valley rather than a twelve-person firm in Stockport.
AIisCurious exists to be the missing option: one experienced person who’ll look at your business, tell you honestly where AI helps (and where it doesn’t), and set it up properly if you want the help.
The background I bring
I’ve spent my career in product management and enterprise software, the job of standing between complicated technology and the people who need it to just work. That’s included implementing AI systems in production, building automation that teams rely on daily, working with AWS and modern cloud tooling, and, importantly for this work, a strong grounding in cyber security awareness.
That last part matters more than people expect. The biggest genuine risk for a small business adopting AI isn’t choosing the wrong tool, it’s putting customer data somewhere it shouldn’t go. Every piece of work I do starts with getting that right.
How I work
- Plain English, always. If I can’t explain it simply, I don’t understand it well enough, and you shouldn’t pay for it.
- Fixed prices. Scoped and agreed up front. No day rates, no meters running.
- Honesty over sales. If AI isn’t worth it for your business yet, your free report will say exactly that.
- Independence. I don’t resell tools or take commissions. Recommendations are based on what fits you.
- You own everything. Accounts, automations, documentation, all yours, all handed over. Nothing is designed to make you dependent on me.
Why “curious”?
Because that’s the honest starting point, for you and for me. Nobody has AI fully figured out, and anyone who claims to is selling something. What works is curiosity applied practically: try the small thing, measure whether it helped, keep what works, drop what doesn’t. That mindset, more than any tool, is what I try to leave behind in every business I work with.
If you’re curious too, the first conversation is free, and it’s a conversation, not a pitch.
